Information
- Address: plac Świętego Ducha, Stargard
In the Middle Ages, the Holy Spirit Hospital (Szpital Świętego Ducha) was a church institution governed by canon law, consisting of an almshouse and a hospital chapel nearby. The first temple on the site of the current Gothic Revival church existed already in the year 1364 and was also dedicated to the Holy Spirit. As was the custom of the times, the chapel was built outside the town ramparts in order to protect the town in the event of an outbreak of an epidemic. The hospital’s tumultuous history ended in the early 20th century.
The Griffonet holds a coin purse and a Stargard coin, referring to the fees collected from the patients and residents of the hospital.
